Now is the time to evaluate and plan

Welcome to my first blog for 2018 an inspiring year lies ahead, supporting my clients to grow their salons and increase their success. I find once you are back into the swing of work and over all the celebrations it’s a really good time to take a review of your business, identify areas for development and organise any education or development your salon requires. Sometimes it’s hard to find the time to stop to evaluate and plan however it’s a worthwhile exercise to ensure your salon always moves forward.  Wishing you a happy and successful 2018.

If your clients are the center of your salon they will keep coming back!

If your clients are the center of your salon they will keep coming back!

This is my secret to salon success:

Service your clients with undivided attention from start to finish, educating your clients is essential.

Teach your staff how to do consultations which are the start of all communication. They only need to ask 3 questions.

Show them how to assess their client’s hair, its growth patterns, texture, condition and their face shape. Then demonstrate the most effective way to communicate advice on the best shape and length for their client.

Then create their client's individual haircut that works for them every day with minimal effort and styling.

Hair education in Russia? What it is really like?

Hair education in Russia? What it is really like?

I have been traveling too Russia for over 10 years now, to both Moscow and Ekatering burg (which is another 3 hour flight from Moscow).

It is important to understand their culture, they have sub zero temperatures in the winter and anything up to minus 30 degrees. That's cold! The hair inside your nostrils moves!! I wouldn't say I am used to it however, I know what to wear, a hat is essential, not my favorite item of clothing but everyone wears a hat and your hair is second layer of warmth.

The hairdressing industry is expanding. Through my support and training courses they are forming a strong educational curriculum at the highest level. Exciting times ahead.

Fashion influences hair education

Fashion influences hair education

Ever thought how fashion impacts on society?

It definitely influences hair styles and future looks. To ensure my education courses are up to date with the latest trends.  They are based on fashion as well as the fundamental cutting skills of course, these paired together give your salon clients a fresh modern feel each season.  Sometimes the changes are minor; a slight change of shape, length, or just colour application.

However it’s essential your staff know what is happening in the fashion world and more importantly how this can be translated to their clients. They need to know which shapes, lengths and colour palettes are popular and how to recommend them to suit all their clients. This will keep staff interested, clients satisfied and the salon busy.

Why is hair education so important?

Why is hair education so important?

I truly believe in the value of hair education and all salons however big or small should invest in their staff and provide them with regular training.

My teaching concept is based around understanding about shape in the hair, using the techniques: one length, layering and graduation to create individual haircuts to suit the clients face shape, hair texture, and growth patterns. The philosophy of my teaching system is that stylists learn by using visual demonstrations, informative lectures and hands on coaching with step by step working sessions.

A combination of these gives a better understanding and the confidence to practice new skills. My structured training courses provide opportunities for staff to increase their knowledge and skills around hairdressing and customer service. This is in turn means the salon improves its expertise and service to its clients, making the salon stand out from its competitors. I have trained hairdressers and salon staff all over the world and the same principles apply across all languages and culture.

Your staff is your biggest asset. Invest in your staff and your business will grow.

My story part 2

My story part 2

Training is vital

I completed my training and worked my way up through the local salons and finally decided the next step for me  was "London”. I found myself teaching the assistants in a London salon and I got a great satisfaction from sharing my knowledge and watching then grow into stylists. I then became a full time instructor at Vidal Sassoon Academies and later Managing Director at Mahogany Academy just off Bond Street London.

We educated different nationalities from around the world and traveled worldwide sharing our skills. I found myself yearning for the next challenge and I took the next step to set up my own education and consultancy business. I have never looked back and I am truly proud of my consultancy and all it stands for. I have been very fortunate to work with some very talented, inspirational iconic people who have helped me on my journey.  Hair education is vitally important to the success of all salons.

My story

My story

People often ask if I always wanted to be a hairdresser and how I got into hairdressing.

My amazing mum

I actually fell into hairdressing, I always knew I could not sit behind a desk every day, being stuck in an office, I loved talking to people and I was always creative. I have my mum to thank for starting my career, as she visited her local hairdressing salon and the owner was looking for an assistant and she kindly offered my services. I started the next week and loved it from day one. How lucky was I to find a career I was passionate about and loved. If you want to find out more about my amazing career journey and how I became a hair educator, follow my blog and I will reveal all.
